Often, blogs would discuss on a specific field of interest such as "The evolution of the internet" or "Technology's Uprising" but there are also blogs that are very personal, where the blogger posts entries about how things are going on in their life, etc.
There are many different ways of typing up posts in blogs which will help some bloggers with their "writer's block". Writing in a different form or different voice and approaching some text differently will often enhance both the quality of the blog as well as help the blogger fix his problem of not knowing what to write. Listed down are different styles of blogging which can help your own blog, and you will find that these are pretty common in daily life, the news, etc. :
Instructional - This kind of blog usually dishes out, well, instructions to do something. Often they are helpful tips or teaches someone to do something. [ex. How to Moonwalk]

Informational - Informational blogs do exactly like they are called. Give information. Probably the most common kind of blog on the internet, it generally gives definitions or longer explanations to certain topics. Interview - This kind of blog involves the blogger and just about anyone where the blogger interviews whoever he or she wants to. Usually this kind of blog is focused on a central figure of a school (if it were a student blog), a celebrity, etc.
Projects - This kind of blog focuses on projects such as W.I.Ps. Basically big projects that various users are doing may be featured on their blog [Ex. "My Biggest Theatre Project Ever: Production of the King and I with only 3 people!]
Reviews - This kind of blog reviews a text, another site, practically everything and anything that CAN be reviewed. "Did you know?" - This popular kind of blog focuses around a single question/fact or several questions/facts and then either gives their insight, an explanation or both.

Problems - These kind of blogs are similar to review blogs but focuses on that one word: problems. The more negative aspects of their topic,products,services, etc. I would advice that you don’t write these pieces just for the sake of them - but if you find a genuine problem with something problem posts can work for you.
Rants - Rants, rants, rants. These kind of blog posts are very common, where the blogger just rants or continues to talk on and on and on about a certain topic. These kind of blog posts are great for starting up an argument on things that usually start contraversy. They may also harm the blogger's reputation if he/she does not know his/her own boundaries.

Research - Research blogs are posts centered on only one thing: their research. They structured like a report in which you could see all the variables, the set up of the experiment all the way to the conclusion. Some scientists may post their research on their blogs for the benefit of the other scientists to read about it.
Hypothetical - These kind of blogs aspire a lot of curiousity, it makes the reader ask himself a lot of questions and reflect due to the nature of these to usually have a lot of philosophic theory in it. They often start with a "what if..?" statement.
Poetic - Poetic blogs come more than often from the blogger itself, usually just a single piece of their work, it is merely a showcase of their emotion in poetry, similar to ranting in the way poetic blogposts are just posted because they want to show emotion.
Advice - A good advice blog post a blogger could make come from a single issue and providing in-depth information about it, often these blogs seek the general population's problems and ways to help these problems get better.
Lists - Probably the easiest kind of blog post is the list. Examples would be "Top 10 ways to making your website look nice" or "Top 5 Amazing Race Bloopers" , not only is it simple to write about, if the blogger decides to spread out each of the items on the list, responses may go on for quite a long while.

"Microblogs"
Microblogs are mini versions of blogs, rather than long paragraphs of text, microblog posts are usually what the blogger is doing currently.

making microblogs basically, an up-to-date status of the blogger itself.
VLOGS
Vlogs in essence are still blogs, but with an added aspect: the usage of video. Instead of the blogger typing everything out, he says it in live video about whatever he wants to say. All blog post types can still be applied here, but in everyday speech.

Vlogs were created by users because of how they want to show their emotions or feelings towards their topic and to perhaps develop an almost intimate feel with the audience by revealing him or herself on the video. They are also, almost always, NEVER REHEARSED. Vlogs are supposed to show the audience, the REAL self of the blogger. How the blogger really IS like, and shouldn't be treated like a movie which requires a ton of rehearsals. Which is probably why most vlogs are done by people who are really bored and just feel like talking about how they feel and topics they find interesting. [As shown in example vlog video up here.]
You have really put in a lot of effort to describe blogging and microblogging with the different categories, used embedded video clips and images to support what you have to say (although not sure that all are worth watching and add to the learning).
